Product Applications

1. Pesticide Intermediate

Dimethyl disulfide is an important intermediate in the manufacture of insecticides, primarily used to produce organophosphorus insecticides such as fenthion. It is also a major raw material for methanesulfonyl chloride and methanesulfonic acid products.

2. Petroleum Industry

Dimethyl disulfide has a wide range of applications in petroleum refining:

Presulfiding agent for hydrotreating catalysts: widely used in the presulfiding and activation of catalysts for hydrodesulfurization, hydrotreating, and hydrocracking of naphtha, gasoline, kerosene, diesel, and atmospheric residue

Coke inhibitor: used as an antifouling agent and coke inhibitor in ethane cracking furnaces and refinery units

Hydrocracking inhibitor: used as an inhibitor in dehydroxylation reactions of benzene rings

3. Rubber Industry

In rubber production, dimethyl disulfide can be used as a solvent, reclaiming agent, softener, and plasticizer.

4. Food Additive

Dimethyl disulfide is an approved food flavoring in China and is commonly used in flavor formulations for onion, garlic, cheese, meat, soups, and fruit.

5. Other Applications

Soil fumigant: used in agriculture as an effective soil fumigant

Fuel additive: used as an additive in fuels and lubricating oils; can replace methanethiol as a jet fuel additive

Corrosion inhibitor: used in the synthesis of artificial flavorings and as a corrosion inhibitor
