Main Applications of Dicumyl Peroxide (DCP)

Dicumyl peroxide (Dicumyl Peroxide, abbreviated as DCP) is an important organic peroxide that plays a key role in the polymer materials industry and is often called “the industrial monosodium glutamate.” Its main applications can be divided into the following categories:

Rubber Vulcanizing Agent
As a vulcanizing agent, DCP is widely used for the crosslinking and vulcanization of natural rubber and synthetic rubbers (such as ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM), nitrile rubber, and silicone rubber), giving rubber products excellent heat-aging resistance and low compression set.

Polymer Crosslinking Agent
As a crosslinking agent, DCP is used to modify polyolefins such as polyethylene and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer through crosslinking, significantly improving the materials’ heat resistance, mechanical strength, and aging resistance. Its main applications include wire and cable insulation, pipes, and heat-shrinkable materials.

Polymerization Initiator
As a polymerization initiator, DCP is used in the production of expandable polystyrene and the synthesis of polymers such as high-impact polystyrene.

Unsaturated Polyester Curing Agent and Other Applications
DCP can also be used as a high-temperature curing agent for unsaturated polyester resin and as a melt flow rate modifier for polypropylene, among other applications.
